Located on a tiny island in the middle of Lake Malawi this is probably one of our favourite spots to go and chill out after a safari. Its 11 rooms and houses offer something for everyone, from cleverly positioned rooms built into the rock, through premium rooms with private plunge pools all the way through to a 4 bedroom house with private pool.
There are loads of activities at Kaya Mawa, diving, snorkelling, wake boarding, kayaking, but it is also one of the nicest location that we have found to just switch off and recharge those batteries in the sunshine before heading home. Surrounded by crystal clear waters, and a stunning island to explore on foot or by bike it is just hard to decide what to do each morning.
Food and service standards here are some of the best in Malawi and for somewhere so remote in a country that is relatively young in tourism terms we are really impressed with the whole experience at Kaya Mawa.
Kaya combines perfectly with a safari that ends in the South Luangwa. Access is easy, you will leave the South Luangwa in the morning and be at Kaya Mawa in time for a late lunch making it one of the most straight forward beach extensions from Zambia.
